Transition to EYFS

Starting school is an exciting time but it can sometimes be difficult for younger children. We therefore plan this time carefully to support children with the transition and to ensure it is as smooth as possible for each child and that they settle into their new class quickly and happily.

Nursery Visits

In June, the teachers will contact the nurseries and pre-schools within Northampton. This allows us to exchange important information with your child’s key worker that will support the transition into school. Please ensure you note down your child’s pre-school setting on the paperwork enclosed in this pack.

Stay and Play Sessions

We organise ‘Stay and Play’ sessions which allow your child to become familiar with their new school, especially the reception base. It is a chance for you and your child to experience what happens in the classroom and join in with some of the activities. It is also a chance for you to get to meet the reception staff. These sessions will be held the week beginning 28th June and last for an hour. Please visit www.schoolinterviews.co.uk and enter code xgq6d  to book a ‘Stay and Play’ session for your child.

(Please note we will follow current Government Guidelines with regards to each session. If these sessions cannot be carried out in June we will re-arrange for September and inform you of the new transition timetable).

Transfer Day

Transfer Day is an exciting day where your child will get to experience the reception base with other members of their class exclusively to themselves. There will be two sessions available on this day, one morning and one afternoon, we will inform you of your child’s transfer group. Transfer Day allows children the opportunity to build valuable links with the staff as well as developing a sense of security at school. These sessions will last for 2.5 hours and children will attend by themselves. Morning sessions will take place between 09:00 – 11.30 and afternoon sessions will take place between 12:30 – 15:00.  Transfer day will take place on Wednesday 7th July.

(Please note we will follow current Government Guidelines with regards to each session If this session cannot be held we will inform you).

Home Visits

Home visits take place in the first week of September.  It is a chance for the Reception staff to get to know your child in an environment that they feel safe and secure.  Home visits will last approximately 20 minutes. These visits will need to be booked in advance using our online booking system. To book time slot please visit www.schoolinterviews.co.uk and enter code hfkzx. Online booking will be available from 12th July.

(Please note we will follow current Government Guidelines with regards to each visit.  If these visits cannot be held in person we will hold via Microsoft Teams).

Transition Sessions

Starting school is a big step for children. Our gradual induction into school will enable your child to settle into school smoothly, even if they are used to being in full time day care. They will be meeting lots of new people and will be getting used to a new environment and new routines. Our transition process is as follows:

Snack Time

There will be snack available during the day where children can help themselves to a piece of fruit and their water. Milk is available free of charge for under 5s and any parent entitled to financial support via: pupil premium. It can also be purchased in school when your child turns 5. This is a great way of encouraging healthy eating and independence as well as involving lots of personal and social skills.

Lunchtimes

For lunch, children have the choice of a hot dinner or a packed lunch, which is prepared and cooked on site by Aspens, our catering provider. Alternatively, there is also an option for children to bring a packed lunch from home if they wish. All children in Reception are entitled to hot meals, which are provided free of charge through the Government scheme. Details about how to book meals in advance will be sent to all parents.
