Andrea Leadsom MP Visit

Andrea Leadsom MP Visit

Wootton Park School welcomed a visit on 10th March from Andrea Leadsom MP, Conservative Member of Parliament for South Northamptonshire.

As part of the visit, Andrea officially opened Wootton Park School’s Wootton Woodlands, a project led by Peter Williams, Head of Design and Technology.

Secondary phase Design & Technology learners were empowered to design, manufacture and program micro controllers to create a fun and enriching learning environment for the younger learners, as part of the school’s Immersive Primary Curriculum.

Ryan, Year 10, said This project has been the most exciting, enjoyable project I have ever had the chance to work on. The combination of multiple disciplines, ranging from programming to 3D printing, to high detail designing, has made this project a real team effort. The opportunity to use such varied skills has really opened my eyes at the wide spectrum of what Design and Technology means to me. I also hope that this exciting project continues to bring happiness to learners for many years to come.”

Following meeting primary learners, A Level Politics students were delighted to meet Andrea for a Q&A session.

Dan Rosser, Principal, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Andrea Leadsom MP to Wootton Park School today and show her our outstanding learning environment. Our younger learners enjoyed showing Andrea our Wootton Woodlands and our sixth formers appreciated hearing her views on areas such as Ulkraine, British foreign policy and energy prices. In addition, we appreciated Andrea’s interest in our Trust’s second free school, Wootton Park School( Hardingstone)”

The Trust that runs Wootton Park School has been working towards the opening of a second free school following approval by Department for Education to enter the pre-opening phase in February 2021 as part of Wave 14 of the Free Schools programme. Andrea met representatives from the pre-opening team to discuss the need for a new secondary school in Northampton.

Wootton Park School (Hardingstone) will be an inclusive, non-selective secondary school, with 900 11-16 places. It will welcome learners of all abilities and from all backgrounds and will follow the same model as the existing all-through Wootton Park School, which was rated as Outstanding in all inspection categories in July 2019.
